Serving Italian Gelato with a Southern Touch
When it comes to frozen desserts, especially ice cream, there are three ways to go. Ice cream can be bought in a grocery store or in ice cream stores that have their product delivered on a truck, made en masse in a factory. Many people make fresh ice cream using mixes and products once again mass produced. Then there are artisans who make their product from scratch, using only the finest and freshest ingredients and imbuing their product with love.
Café GelatOhhh! is such a place.. Savannah’s only authentic gelateria, our artisan style gelato and sorbetto are produced on site daily, completely from scratch. Most gelaterias produce their gelato using packaged base powders and canned flavors imported from Italy, or they actually have it delivered in the mail(!). Not at Café GelatOhhh!
We roast and grind our own Hazelnut, Pecan, and Pistachio butters to produce the freshest possible product. Our chocolate flavors are produced with the finest French process Callebaut Cocoa. We create our Straciatella (chocolate ribbon) with hand- tempered bittersweet Callebaut Dark Chocolate, unlike most establishments that use cocoa water mixed with vegetable fat. We produce our own Panna Cotta and Dulce De Leche pastes for the honest flavors of Italy and South America.
We are notably proud of our Southern roots, as our owner is a sixth generation Savannah native. As such, we produce Southern flavors using Italian techniques. Some of our favorites are Peanut Butter, Banana Pudding, Bananas Foster, Key Lime Pie, Butter Pecan, and Chatham Artillery Trifle. We use real yogurt cultures to produce a truly authentic cheesecake flavor.
Because we are in total control of our production process, we are able to offer truly fat free vegetarian and vegan friendly sorbettos that are made with sugar, water, and fruit ONLY. No milk or milk powder is used, unlike other sherbet and sorbet products.
We produce gourmet style Italian Panini Sandwiches (sandwiches which are pressed and grilled). Once again we emulate both Italian and American styles, using fresh Mozzarella, Prosciutto, Pesto, Meatballs, Turkey, and Ham. Our olives are fresh, not canned. We also make a mean salad, including a Caprese that is truly to die for. We have a slew of vegetarian sandwiches and once again, we CAN accommodate vegan dietary restrictions.
Finally, we make the freshest coffee on the planet, using a traditional Italian fair trade roast produced cup by cup, on demand. From espresso to Café Americano to Capuccino to a true Italian Macchiato to flavored coffees and even espresso gelato floats (affogato), we can do it all.
